Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Transport, met with Ambassador Michele Quaroni, Ambassador of the State of Italy in Cairo, to discuss strengthening joint cooperation between the two sides in various fields of transport, especially in the field of maritime transport. The meeting was attended by the Head of the Maritime Transport Sector and the Head of Damietta Port. At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Transport stressed the depth of relations between the two sides and the importance of the current joint cooperation in various fields of transport, such as the contract signed with the alliance (German Eurojet, Italian Kentship and Hapag-Lloyd Line) to manage, operate and maintain the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal in Damietta Port, and cooperation with the Italian company Almaviva regarding the implementation of the unified card for means of transport in Egypt and cooperation with an Egyptian-Italian alliance in implementing the Intelligent Transport System on Roads (ITS), as well as cooperation between the National Authority for Egyptian Railways and the Italian company Mermic to supply a track inspection machine. The Minister of Transport discussed with the Italian Ambassador in Cairo the latest developments regarding the project to operate and open a fast (Ro-Ro) line for perishable agricultural products between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Italian Republic (between the ports of Damietta and Trieste), and the expected date for the first trip of the line. The Minister confirmed that operating this The line comes within the framework of implementing the Egyptian governments plan to maximize the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the countries of the world and increase the volume of Egyptian exports in implementation of the presidential directives, noting that this line enjoys the attention of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and the Egyptian government, especially since it will contribute to serving Egypts foreign trade, considering that Italy is one of the most important countries that receive Egyptian exports, especially fresh agricultural products, from which these goods are distributed to the rest of Europe. Egyptian ports are also considered Italys gateway to Africa and the Gulf countries, especially after the tremendous development witnessed by Egyptian ports and Egyptian road and railway networks. The Italian ambassador in Cairo thanked the Minister of Transport and the Maritime Transport Sector for the great cooperation in operating this line, stressing the Italian governments interest in operating this line between Egypt and Italy, especially with its importance in facilitating the movement of trade between the two friendly countries and reducing the arrival time of Egyptian goods, not only to Italy but to Europe, because the port of Trieste is the important gateway for the transit of Egyptian products to Europe, in addition to the fact that this line will contribute to encouraging and increasing Italian investments in Egypt, especially since the investment climate in Egypt is a promising climate that represents an attractive element for Italian companies. |
